is eight enough?

rumor has it that there will be eight paying patrons at tonight's performance. if we play the odds of this show, about 10-25% of them will leave before it's over. it's a long show. it's a challenging show to watch for some people. it deals with some tough issues. so, if walk-up sales are slow, and we start the show with 8 people... and we lose 25% of them at one of the two intermissions, there will be about 6 people in the audience tonight.
which brings me to an interesting question i've never really gotten confirmation on: if a movie theatre is empty, do they still show the movie? and similarly, if everyone leaves after intermission, do we continue with the performance? what if there's one person left? do we stop and say, "listen, thanks for staying, here's your money back. we're gonna go out for a beer. wanna join us?" imagine the pressure on that one person left after the first intermission... what if he/she wants to leave at the second intermission? could you really muster up enough courage to do that? i couldn't. if i leave early, i need it to be in the anonymity of a larger audience.

at any rate, we'll see what happens. and i'll of course let you, my faithful reader, know. =)
