i've got cattitude

it's hard for me to describe some of the people I work with to people who've never worked for a company this large, and in an area so technical. that is not to say that i work in a remarkably technical field... it's no JPL, or Sandia, but it is technical. moreso than most of the people i know.

but the scenario goes like this: my cubemate is a health+fitness buff... or i guess better described as an athlete. he likes rock climbing, mountain biking, that sort of thing. as such, he is regularly microwaving a chicken breast and broccoli, or eating some tuna out of these little metallic sealed pouches several times a day. some of the high-protein things he eats smell like fish, and thus get called "cat food" by the guy across the isle from us. i would say this serves as the funniest thing this man has ever come up with. don't get me wrong: this man is very good at his job, and a nice enough guy. just sort of socially inept, and solitary in his lifestyle. so, when he came up with "cat food," he was really hitting his stride.

so, today, my cubemate excitedly mentioned something about having girlfriend-made vegetable lasagna to eat for lunch today, instead of his normal tunafish. the following dialogue is layed out like this:
"CM" is cubemate - mr. tunafish
"AA" is across the aisle guy- mr. comedian
"ME" is me.

AA - "hey man, it's lunchtime... so, going to get your cat food?"
CM - "actually, the lady made lasagna last night, so I get to eat veggie lasagna for lunch today!"
ME - "wow! that sounds good...." (CM exits stage left)
AA - "lasagna!? cats won't touch that stuff"
ME - "Garfield did."
AA - "...." (looks at me, turns, and goes back to typing without reaction)

what the fuck? i thought it was funny... despite being a Garfield joke. and now i am left to wonder if he didn't laugh because he doesn't know who Garfield is, didn't care for my intrusion into his comment, or if he doesn't like me. whatever the reason... it needs to go into The Book.
i need to share this whole office environment with the rest of the world... it is a gold mine.
